La Unica's bandmembers

Matt is an outstanding music teacher, all his students love him. Besides being the best drummer, he's also the tallest!

TJ and his bass are one in the same. Sometimes the rest of the band talks to TJ's bass instead of him.

Cory loves percussion and Latin rhythms. He can play everything on his guitar or Puerto Rican cuatro. He thinks Buffalo has the best pizza.

Neil is the fastest and best tin whistle player, period. We proclaimed it so. He's also an expert grill master, a Mets fan and believes debating regional pizza quality is useless because the answer is obvious.

Gonzo learned English with La Unica, but not all words. He can't say "depth" and when the pizza debate ensues, he adds a k to the word, saying "pikza." As long as those words are not in the lyrics, he is fine.

La Unica's history

La Unica’s friends

Through these 13 years we have made good friends along the road. Amazing musicians, artists, activist, dancers, you name it. We want to share those friendships with you, so here they are!

Camilo Diaz

Back in 2009, during the very first days of La Unica, our friend Camilo brought all the Latin flavors to this experiment as our first ever percussionist. And La Unica took off!

Camilo has been our friend from the very beginning, and besides being a very talented musician, he’s a wonderful dad and husband, taking care of his beautiful family every day.

He plays drums, congas, bongos, guiro, campana, timbales and even Colombian tambora. Pretty much every single Latin percussion instrument.

To enjoy Camilo’s skills, you can go, on a Saturday night, to Bossa Bistro in Washington, DC. It’s definitely a sight to see.

Thank you for being our friend Camilo!

La Unica’s TBT

This event was an amazing experience for us. It was the first time (but not the last) the police showed up at one of La Unica’s performances. People were having such a blast dancing that they blocked the street, order was restored! It was in 2013 at the Adams Morgan’s Porchfest!
